Stockholm, Sweden, Thursday 16 October 2025:  Reactional Music today announced its partnership with Dovetail Games, the leading developer and publisher of exceptional rail, transport and digital tabletop video game simulations for leading PC and console platforms.

Reactional powers new levels of real time player music interactivity in Metro Rivals: New York, an innovative and genre-defying subway sim-cade game currently in development. Set to release early 2026, the game is now available for wish-listing on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rob O’Farrell, co-CEO of Dovetail Games, said: “We are excited to announce we are working with the team at Reactional Music, introducing its procedural music engine into Metro Rivals: New York. Reactional real time musical interactivity means music is fully native and cinematically integrated in the game, even when swapping tracks.”

Matt Connors, CEO of Reactional Music, said: “The next generation of in-game music is about fully native real time interactivity for the player and the ability to easily customise and personalise the soundtrack. We are thrilled to be working with the team at Dovetail.”

Reactional’s music engine powers musical interactivity, meaning new levels of real time personalisation, including real time track swapping.

For players this means new levels of cosmetic personalisation and in-game purchases.

Metro Rivals: New York City is Dovetail’s first foray into Unreal Engine 5 development, offering more deeply immersive experiences and procedural generation designed to create worlds that feel intensely alive and personal, powered by Reactional Music and tools such as Nanite and Lumen. ,

Gemma Brown, co-CEO of Dovetail Games, added: “Metro Rivals: New York feels gritty, fast-paced, and full of energy. It keeps you on your toes and blends the attitude of New York with the thrill of a competitive sim-cade racing experience – think Crazy Taxi meets Need for Speed: Underground. Early feedback from our new on-site Playlab has been fantastic, and we can’t wait to get it into players’ hands next year.”

Reactional is pioneering commercial music to be enabled as an in-game purchase at scale for the first time. In a global games market worth $223.1 billion* in 2023, in-game purchases totalled $125.7 billion, of which $72.5 billion was spent on cosmetic content and in-game personalisation. However, music has so far accounted for less than 0.01 percent of this spend.

Changing consumption habits and an increase in personalisation in all digital worlds means that spending on in-game personalisation is predicted to grow to $100 billion by 2029.Metro Rivals: New York is being developed for Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with release planned for early 2026.
