Commercial music rendered fully interactive and game ready in just minutes using Unreal Engine, Metasounds and Reactional Music

October 7, 2024

From Music Jam to Interactive Game Soundtrack in 10 Minutes. Denver trio LVNDR.SOUND create a world first

7th October 2024. Unreal Fest 2024 Seattle played host to a world first in game audio with live music composition and game soundtrack creation between a music artist and game developer using Unreal Engine, MetaSounds and the Reactional Music Platform. A music track, composed on stage by a commercial recording artist was rendered from hard coded to a fully interactive immersive game soundtrack, fully responsive to gameplay and the gamer in just 10 minutes.

Reactional Music created this world first event for Unreal Fest 2024 with Denver based electronic music trio LVNDR.SOUND.

Reactional’s interactive music and personalisation engine allows music, music artists, composers and games developers to be connected in new ways. Composed music is modulated and procedurally created on a per note basis, directly controlled by the game or used to control the game itself.

Jay Greens, a founding member of LVNDR.SOUND, said: “Collaborating with Reactional Music at Unreal Fest introduced us to a new world of possibilities for music and gaming integration. Seeing our tracks adapt and evolve in real-time based on a player’s actions was truly groundbreaking. This is the next step for music in gaming, and we’re excited to be part of where it’s headed.”

Jonas Kjellberg, Chief Product Officer at Reactional Music, said: “We believe that sound is as integral to gameplay and the gamer as the visual. Music can now be fully interactive, generated from composition in real time around in-game events and the gamer. With the developer’s curation and creative vision, it can also be personalized by any gamer anywhere. The interactive soundtrack will adapt to the chords, tempo and dynamics of any music with Reactional, Unreal and Metasounds, making gaming experiences more immersive and more personal.

“We were delighted to be invited by Epic Games to share what Reactional is doing with Unreal Engine and Metasounds and how game developers can now use and think about music, creatively, technically and commercially.”

Reactional enables music to be swapped in and out of a game in real time by the gamer, with the interactive music soundtrack, stinger and effects responding in real time, in tempo and pitch with the commercial music.

Music accounts for close to zero of the global market for personalized in-game cosmetic content worth $72.5 Billion* a year. Reactional’s interactive music engine is pioneering commercial music as an in-game purchase for the first time.

Changing consumer consumption habits and an increase in personalisation in all digital worlds means that spending on in-game personalisation is predicted to grow to $100 billion by 2029.

This world-first event showed how the Reactional Engine is enabling game developers to create and use music in new creative and commercial ways, but also how games and music will co-exist as consumer entertainment.
