Reactional’s Unity platform opens up a new wave of creativity, interactive music, music from key commercial labels and a new generation of deeper and more immersive games
San Francisco, US / Stockholm, Sweden 17 July 2024 (14.00hrs CET) — Reactional Music, the rule-based music engine that connects the worlds of music and games for game developers, creators, music artists, composers and gamers, today became an open platform for all Unity developers, opening a new era of interactive music, music personalisation and in-game music purchase.
Unity (NYSE: U), the world’s leading platform of tools for creators to build and grow real-time games, apps and experiences across multiple platforms, is connecting Reactional’s generative composable music technology, interactive music composition tools and music delivery platform, to its global game developer community as a Verified Solutions Provider. Reactional’s composable generative music engine allows music and audio to be generated live around the gamer. There is no longer a need for hard coding, resulting in faster and more efficient creation and trialing of music and audio in games.
Reactional is also pioneering commercial music as an in-game purchase. It has so far partnered with approaching 50 global music companies to offer commercial music as an in-game personalised choice for gamers. Reactional’s engine enables all music, stingers and sound FX to be in time, key and harmonically sensitive to any game in real time.
In 2023 in-game purchases totalled $127 Billion*, $72 Billion* of this spending by gamers is cosmetic; music currently counts for less than 0.01 percent of this.
All music and audio remains fully controlled and curated by the composer, sound designer and developer, and is easily integrated into the existing Unity workflow. Reactional also integrates with Wwise and FMOD.
Peter O’Reilly, Vice President, Marketplace and Product-Led Growth at Unity, said: “Solving hard problems in order to democratize access to tools is at the core of Unity’s DNA. Reactional Music brings technical and commercial efficiencies and opportunities in music that help creativity and workflow for developers. Reactional has also solved the complexity of global music rights, making licensed music accessible and providing an easy-to-use tool for developers to build experiences that previously only large developers could do. I look forward to the new music-based experiences that get created thanks to them.”
“For music composers and audio directors, sound designers, a rule-based music engine enables more immersive interactive music to be created and dropped into a game easily – from DAW to game in minutes, potentially saving thousands of dollars on development costs,” said Reactional Music President David Knox.
“Working together with Unity, developers, sound designers and creators can enable interactive music, music personalisation and a new in-game purchase revenue stream, all curated and controlled by the team, for new games or a retrofit and game franchise season refresh.”
The Reactional Music Delivery Platform is a constantly evolving library of millions of recorded music tracks, all of which is easily curated by the game developer, allowing live prototyping of music without any cost prior to game launch. It also allows interactive music to be easily dropped into a game prototype.
